Jasná offers many hiking trails that are suitable not only for beginners but also for experienced hikers. Hiking is therefore a great activity for family outings. In addition, the Björnson Mountain Hotel in Jasná offers free accommodation for two children under the age of 10 TREE HOUSES accommodations at no extra charge. In this article, we’ll give you 5 tips for hiking trails around Jasná.

1. HIKING TIP – Vrbické pleso

This is an easy hike for families with children. The hike begins at Biela Púť, which is 1.3 kilometers from the Björnsonka Hotel. Vrbické Pleso is the largest natural lake in the Low Tatras. Your little ones will also have a great time—they can run around and play at the forest playground. From there, you’ll return to the Biela púť parking lot.

2. HIKING TIP – Hike to Chopok

This challenging eight-and-a-half-hour hike begins at the Biela púť parking lot, which is a twenty-minute walk from the Björnsonka Hotel. From there, you’ll continue toward Tri vody and the Poľany Pass. Then follow the red hiking trail. It will take you through Dereše, Chopok, and Demänovské sedlo to Krúpovo sedlo, from where you’ll follow the green trail to the Široká dolina junction, below Krčahov, and on to the Lúčky bus stop.

Tip: If you’re not a hiking enthusiast but want to admire the beautiful views of Slovakia’s mountains and valleys, you can take the cable car all the way to the top of Chopok. We’ll include a free cable car ticket with every accommodation option in Jasná at Björnsonka.

3. HIKING TIP – The Chopok–Ďumbier Trail

From the summit of Chopok, you can reach the highest peak of the Low Tatras via a moderately difficult ridge hike. Ďumbier offers a unique panoramic view of all the prominent mountain ranges of central Slovakia. Follow the red hiking trail past Kamenná Chata, through the Demänovské Sedlo pass, and over Krúpová Hoľa all the way to the majestic Ďumbier. If you’re lucky, you might spot chamois or marmots along the way.

4. HIKING TIP – Dereše

This is the rockiest section of the main Low Tatras ridge, which makes this hike more challenging. You’ll be treated to magnificent views of the Demänovská and Bystrá valleys, the peaks of the Low Tatras, as well as the Little and Big Fatra mountains. This high-altitude hike with significant elevation gain begins in Otupné, from where you’ll follow the blue trail marker. You’ll pass through Brhliská, Pod Orlou skalou, and Luková all the way to Chopok. From there, follow the red trail, which will lead you to Dereše. On the way back, follow the yellow trail through the Poľany Pass and Tri vody all the way to Jasná.

5. HIKING TIP – Hike from Chopok over the Poľany Pass to Tri vody and Biela púť

This easier, three-and-a-half-hour hike is suitable even for inexperienced hikers. It offers beautiful views of the valleys of the Low Tatras, as well as Liptovská Mara. Starting at the summit of Chopok, follow the red trail through Dereše to the Poľany Pass, where you’ll turn onto the yellow trail, which will lead you to Tri vody. Continue past Vrbické Pleso all the way to Biela Púť.
